22 Life Lessons from Toy Story 3: Conclusions
13. Make a Move
Chatter Telephone wouldn’t make a move and he got broken at last. He thought it was safe in his hiding place — and indeed it was safe — but one thing led to another and at last, he was caught. This goes to describe the fact that staying in a seemingly safe spot might not be the best option.
It’s good to make a move, most especially if the spot you are is not your dream spot. The story would be different if that spot is where you really are aiming at. Even if so, you still need to keep on moving and not be stagnant.
With Woody and his friends, they made a move and, even though it was risky, tiring, and dangerous, they still succeeded. So, make a move.
14. Make a Plan
For everything you want to do, always try to draw your plan. Making an exit plan helped Woody and his friends to successfully get out of Sunnyside. In comparison, some of the toys who were mentioned when Chatter Telephone was talking to Woody about former toys who’ve tried to escape failed to make a plan, and all of them were caught while trying to escape.
15. Taking Responsibility for Errors
In addition to having a heart of true friendship, people must also be willing to improve their friendship by taking responsibility for their faults. Woody said to his friends when he returned to Sunnyside — and the other toys were regretting their stay — no it’s my fault for leaving you guys. This statement will no doubt gladden the heart of the other toys and everybody will be happy.
16. Be Kind to Your Enemy Sometimes
This may sound weird, but taking an initiative from Woody and Buzz’s help to Lotso at the trash site will strengthen the fact that helping your enemy does not mean that you would die. Although it may be risky but rest assured you will triumph.
In the end, see what happened to Lotso, the traitor, and see what happened to Woody and his friends; they were rewarded for their good heart and Lotso?
17. Betrayal is Bad
Just as a follow up to being kind to one’s enemy sometimes, one would see the end of betrayal. Lotso later ended up in a worse place while Woody and his friends triumphed.
18. Stick together!
Sticking together is the heart of friendship. It helped Woody and his friends at last when all seemed lost; the claw carried them all up at the same time during their time of despair.
A lone sheep is prone to being killed by a wolf. If they had not stuck together, the claw might have missed one of them and they wouldn’t all be saved.
19. Don’t Lose Hope. Help Might Come in the Last Minutes
This is reflected in the most beautiful scene in Toy Story 3. Everyone has lost hope! They thought they’re doomed to die in the raging inferno. And then the claw took them! Never lose hope buddy, never.
20. Be Faithful. Leave an Impact
The final speech by Andy to Bonnie points to the fact that faithfulness will not go unappreciated. Just be faithful and try to leave a positive impact. Even if it seems that you are not appreciated, your time will come and people will remember your good deeds.
21. Never Give Up on Your Buddy
Also, Andy’s final speech which described Woody shows the value of never giving up on people. See the hesitation by Andy in his speech; see the attachment. Afterward, he said, “Thanks, guys.”
22. Don’t Govern in a Pyramidal Manner
Barbie, while at the trash can, said,
Authority should derive from the consent of the governed not from the threat of force.
Also, Ken said,
Sunnyside could be cool and groovy if we treated each other fair . . . Lotso, he’s made us into a pyramid and he puts himself on top.
These words indeed demonstrate Lotso’s leadership style — and see the end of his leadership.
A leader should give credence to the wish of the governed. See what happened later when the toys at Bonnie’s place were exchanging cards with the toys at Sunnyside after the triumph over Lotso. One card reads,
So, I guess you could say Sunnyside is sunny once again.
That was how Sunnyside became when Ken took over and was leading justly.
Conclusion
All in all, Toy Story 3 has described to us what true love and friendship are. If only people would emulate all those aforementioned lessons from the movie, how happy would the world be?!
